If you know anything about history or sailing, then you know that things have changed over the course of time. In the old days, sailboats were completely wooden and they relief upon nothing but the wind. They had tired sails, and they were difficult to maneuver. Most people have seen the giant boats at least in the movies. Things change, though, and technology has made life much easier on everyone. It's even made life easier on the people who sail the seas. Sailing technology has advanced in a big way over the years, and sailors today can move quickly through the seas.
How has sailing technology evolved? For one, sailboats now have power capability. If you are stuck out there on the ocean, it helps to know that you have a motor if you need one. You are not dependent solely on the wind to move your boat. In addition, sailboats are now made of more than just wood. They are aerodynamically designed for movement, and they are much easier to operate than they were in the past. Going on the water has never been so easy, and sailing technology has played a huge role in this transition.

Sailing might seem like something out of the last century, but it is still a popular recreational activity among many people. However, there are two distinct areas of sailing. There is sailing as a past time, something to do for fun, and as a sport, where people compete to see who the best sailors truly are.
The activities are the same in theory, and only really different in the intensity. For instance, recreational sailors might go out onto a lake and have a leisurely day going around the water. Competitive sailors would make the same run around the lake against other boats, on a set course and to beat a given time.
Sailors also go out on the open sea, which is considered a much more dangerous form of sailing. Recreational sailors might sail down the coast, from New England to Florida for instance. Competitive sailors will attempt to make a journey into a race, going from one place to another more quickly than anyone else. Or, alternatively, they'll try to sail further than anyone else has. Sailing around the world by yourself, for instance, is the sort of event that someone trying to break a world record woud finish.

There is a long history of sailing and racing. It has become something that has changed over the years, but both have a long history.
Sailing actually goes back to prehistoric times. People where sailing as early as the days of Christopher Columbus and his exploration of the world. When it comes to racing in sailing there are lots of things like America's cup and Olympic sailing that have been around for a long time.
This all started with primitive vessels that were made of wood. These contraptions did not always work so well, but over the years the quality of ships have improved.I found some more information
here. What most people know about the early years of sailing goes back to the Vikings. There is even evidence that Arabs and Chinese sailboats were in existences thousands of years ago.
The question of when the idea became more Americanized for the purpose of racing is somewhat unknown. It is possible that more of the sailing became a bigger deal because of the Greeks and their Olympic events. There has been a transformation that has become more of an American novelty. Yacht clubs and private boat owners sail the seas all the time for recreational purposes.

Being a extraordinary captain not only entails handling your ship correctly, but you must also handle safety procedures properly while on deck. Water safety procedures are of the utmost importance when sailing a ship. Captains should always ensure that their crew members or passengers should be wearing a life vest. Life vests are designed to assist a passenger in staying afloat in the event that they fall into the water. Life vests are also colored a bright orange, so it is easy to spot anyone if they fall into the water. Wearing a life vest can mean the difference between life and death for passengers.
In addition to making passengers wear life vests, it is also important that the captain can perform CPR on passengers to resuscitate them. CPR is essential for any captain as a passenger may die if the passageways to the lungs are obstructed with water. In addition, a captain should never let a passenger leave their field of vision. Keeping track of each passenger is important to ensure that no one has fallen off of the boat. By keeping track of your passengers, learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and requiring life vests, one can become an great captain.

When looking to bu a boat sail, you will find they come in different sizes. The sails which are most frequently available for sale are those designed to fit small boats. If you are looking for a sail with a decorative image printed on it you could look at the products available online. Sails are sold according to the make and model of boat you own so be prepared to look under your boat's brand name. Many brands of sails for small crafts are available in the classic white as well as in more colorful shades of red, blue and cream. Depending on what type of boat you own it could use anywhere from one to three sails.
If your city has a dealership for boats, you can also check with the dealership to see if they carry sails. Even if they do not have the type of decorative or colored sails you are looking for, they might be able to order them for you. Another place to check is in your newspaper classified section. Someone else who owns a similar boat may have purchased new sails and is looking to sell their old ones. There are also online auction sites which could be a good place to find colorful sails to fit your boat.

If you have never been sailing or if you have minimal experience with it, it is important for you to learn a bit about the waters before you set off to sea. Although the idea of sailing can be very romantic, exciting and fun, it can also be dangerous if you do not know what you are doing. Therefore, you should educate yourself before sailing.
First of all, you might want to consider sailing with someone who is more experienced for the first couple of times that you go. You can choose to learn from a friend who is experienced in sailing, or you can ask an instructor to go along for the ride. By actually sailing with the help of someone who knows what he or she is doing, you can gain both the confidence and the experience that you need.
Along with practicing, it never hurts to do a bit of research. Not only should you consider reading books, magazines and websites about sailing in order to get a good understanding of how to do it and how to stay safe, you should also consider doing research about the area that you will be sailing in so that you are prepared.
